Delivery made to Wounded Knee
|
The shipment to Wounded Knee was delivered to our contact there Friday Jan 21st. Our contact had several people volunteer to unload the truck and even used some of her own money to have some volunteers take needed items to people’s homes who do not have a car and also to some of the elders that are unable to move
|
furniture on their own. Our contact lives on a minimal amount of money as she does not have a job at this time. We are excitedly waiting to hear the feedback from Wounded Knee real soon. Thanks to everyone for your contributions!

Now Loading Truck for Red Shirt
|
With the Lower Brule load on it’s way our focus shifts to loading a 53 ft. semi-trailer destined for Red Shirt on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Red Shirt is a small, forgotten, out-of-the-way community surrounded by Badlands National Park on the northern part of the reservation which does not receive many donations from anywhere.
Top requested items for this truckload include beds, diapers, food, blankets, space heaters, and dog food as well as all the life essentials. We are working hard to load this |
truck so it can leave Colorado Springs on Dec. 20th bearing the essentials plus Christmas gifts for young and old alike. Sending out this truck by the 20th will ensure that Santa Claus fulfills his mission and allows them to have a great Christmas giveaway.
Our thanks go out for your donations and volunteer efforts that will make a fun and exciting Christmas come true for our brothers and sisters on the reservation!

Winter Provisions Run to Rosebud, Pine Ridge
|
On Dec. 16th Urban Turzi and a few other volunteers will be loading personal vehicles with food, blankets, firewood, space heaters, etc. and heading to the Rosebud Indian Reservation to deliver the items to different communities there. At the same time, Kathy Dunson (formerly Kathy Arnold!) will lead a |
group bringing several trucks full of similar items to different communities on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Sooo many lose their lives to the cold that they felt they should change the name of the effort from the Turkey Run to the “ Winter Provisions Run”

Winter provisions drive now on!
|
We are currently doing a drive for our “Winter Provisions Run” This is a collection of food; boxed, canned, or frozen meat. We also take space heaters, blankets, coats, gloves and firewood. We used to call it our turkey run as we do this at Thanksgiving and Christmastime. But too often we run into a home that is unable to cook a whole turkey. So we ask for ground beef, chicken and other |
meats as well as the turkeys as this is not just for the holidays but mostly a way to help people get through the harsh winter. We are scheduled to have a group go to Rosebud, South Dakota and a group going to Pine Ridge, South Dakota. The groups will be loading for the trips on Dec. 15 so the deadline for dropoffs is also Dec 15th. See also Track our shipments. |
